When dentures are made of quality durable material and cared for well, they can and often do last for a good many years. However, even with the best of care, over time, you discover, it feels as though your teeth just don't feel as good and tight as they used to. There could be any number of reasons causing this, including normal, everyday wear and tear, as you age there are changes in your face and mouth shape, accidents or breakage and perhaps even bone loss.
When Do You Need a Denture Reline?
No matter how well your dentures fit, over time they will eventually become loose and somewhat uncomfortable. A denture reline is a process that will restore that snug fit your dentures had inside your mouth when they were new, and you'll find you will be able to eat better again and even speak better. You will want to consider having a denture reline if you are having prolonged discomfort with your dentures or gums, a lot of infections and sores, if chewing your food becomes difficult or painful, or maybe when you feel the dentures are loose in your mouth and you feel like they are going to come out when you are eating or trying to talk, and then of course, if has been over two years or more since you have been to our dental office to have your dentures looked at or had an exam, then it is probably time to come in and have everything looked at.
What Is a Denture Reline?
The shape of your gums and jawbone as you age will naturally change. So, a denture reline is just a process that will just reline and reshape the underside of your denture to once again make them fit more secure inside your mouth. If you notice any of these signs, call us. We are here to help make sure your dentures are helping you and as comfortable as possible.
